In a case involving a challenge to the application of the City of Chicago’s Shared Housing Ordinance, plaintiff brought a lawsuit alleging, among other things, that the implementation of the ordinance against him, which prevented him from listing his property as a short-term residential rental, constituted an unconstitutional taking and was an inverse condemnation in violation of Illinois law. The district court dismissed the takings and inverse condemnation claims and declined to exercise jurisdiction over any remaining state law claims and plaintiff appeal. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that the district court properly dismissed the case and did not abuse its discretion in declining to exercise supplemental jurisdiction over the remaining state law claims.
