Plaintiff filed a lawsuit against two correctional officers alleging violations of the Due Process Clause after he was injured by other detainees while awaiting trial in a county detention facility. Plaintiff alleged that his constitutional rights were violated when the defendants failed to protect him from the other detainees. The district court entered summary judgment in favor of the defendants by finding that the evidence did not permit the finding that either officer acted in a manner that was not objectively reasonable. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, explaining that a jury could not find that the officers acted unreasonably where they did not foresee the risk of harm to the plaintiff and where they waited for back-up assistance prior to intervening.
