Plaintiff filed a complaint alleging numerous section 1983 claims against several prison employees related to alleged constitutional violations stemming from plaintiff’s detention in solitary confinement and the alleged improper confiscation of plaintiff’s outgoing mail. The district court dismissed plaintiff’s Eighth and Fourteenth Amendment claims and after discovery granted summary judgment on plaintiff’s final remaining claim alleging violations of his First Amendment rights. Plaintiff appealed the trial court’s order denying his motion to amend the complaint and granting summary judgment. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that the trial court did not commit any errors. (SCUDDER and ST. EVE, concurring)
