Plaintiff, individually and as the father and next friend to a minor, filed a complaint alleging a violation of the Gender Violence Act against defendant, a minor, and a violation of the Parental Responsibility Law against the minor’s parents. Defendants moved for an order requiring defendants to be identified by fictitious names in all filings. The trial court granted the motion and plaintiff appealed. The appellate court affirmed, finding that the trial court did not abuse its discretion when it found that the defendants’ privacy interest outweighed the public’s right of access to an open proceeding and that maintaining the confidentiality of a juvenile’s parents was not a novel practice.
