The Illinois general Assembly amended several sections of the Smoke Free Illinois Act. 410 ILCS 82/10 et seq. Section 15 of the Act was amended to provide that an owner of a place of employment, public place, or government vehicle, as those terms are defined by the Act, "shall reasonably assure that smoking" is prohibited unless specifically allowed under section 35 of the Act.

On August 11, 2004, Illinois adopted the Suicide Prevention, Education, and Treatment Act in an effort to address this crucial public health concern, which ranks tenth among causes of death nationally. 

Effective January 1, 2005, the Department of Public Health (Department) shall establish and administer a program under which any eligible individual shall, upon the eligible individual's request, receive an influenza vaccination once each year at no cost to that eligible individual. 

Effective January 1, 2005, the Methamphetamine Manufacturing Chemical Retail Sale Control Act will seek to reduce the damage methamphetamine use inflicts upon individuals, their families, communities, the economy, and the environment by making it more difficult to obtain the requisite chemicals for methamphetamine manufacturing.

Some Illinois teens may soon find it more difficult to purchase cigarettes and other tobacco products. House Bill 1034 would raise the current minimum age to purchase such products from 18 to 19.
