Attorney Paula Hudson Holderman, of LaGrange, has moved up the organizational ladder of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), becoming president-elect of the organization.
Previously, she served as third and second vice president, and will be installed as president in June 2013.
Ms. Holderman, Chief Attorney Development Officer at the international law firm of Winston & Strawn, LLP, has global responsibility for the firm’s professional development and all facets of education and training for its 900 lawyers. She is a nationally recognized authority in the field of professional development with 33 years of experience as a lawyer, legal educator and bar leader.
Prior to joining the firm, she was director of hiring, recruiting and continuing legal education for the Cook County, Illinois, State’s Attorney’s Office. She also previously served as associate director of the Center for Advocacy and Dispute Resolution and Director of Clinical Education at The John Marshall Law School. From 1979-1989, she was an assistant state’s attorney for the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office in Urbana.
Ms. Holderman, who was first elected to the ISBA Board of Governors in 2006, has served as chair of the ISBA’s Finance Committee, the Bench and Bar Section Council, and Women and the Law Section Council. She also has served as an elected member of the ISBA’s Assembly.
Ms. Holderman is currently a Commissioner on the Illinois Supreme Court’s Character and Fitness Committee as well as a Board Member of the Court’s Committee on MCLE. For eight years, she was also a member of the Court’s Rules Committee on Professional Responsibility. A past member of the board of trustees of LAWPAC, she served as its president in 2004-2005. She is a past president of the Champaign County Bar Association. Ms. Holderman is the James C. Wood Distinguished Lecturer in IP Law at the University of Illinois College of Law.
Ms. Holderman received a B.A. in French from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976 and a J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 1979.
The 33,000-member Illinois State Bar Association, with offices in Springfield and Chicago, provides professional services to Illinois lawyers, and education and services to the public.
