Detective Carl Walker of the O’Fallon Police Department will receive the Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) on August 21 during an O’Fallon City Council meeting at City Hall.

The ISBA Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. It recognizes those who excel in law enforcement.

Detective Walker, who was nominated for the award by Captain Kirk Brueggeman of the O’Fallon Police Department, will be acknowledged for his efforts to automate the information sharing process for the St. Clair County Investigative Professional Group using information technology. Working with web developers, he created ILCRIMES, a tool that automates the sharing of details related to criminal incidents, law enforcement contacts, and resources. Since launching in October 2016, ILCRIMES has over 250 registered users on the site and is being used locally and regionally.

“Detective Walker not only had an idea to make our investigations more efficient and more successful, he had the skillset and desire to put that idea into practice,” said Brueggeman. “His efforts in creating this web-based tool have had a direct impact on police investigations throughout the Metro East. We are very proud to have him as part of our team here in O’Fallon.”

The award will be presented to Detective Walker by ISBA Third Vice President Dennis Orsey of Granite City.

The Illinois State Bar Association is a voluntary organization of 33,000 members that provides professional services to Illinois lawyers and education and services to the public. For more information, visit isba.org.
