Personal Jurisdiction
Illinois courts may not exercise specific personal jurisdiction over an out-of-state defendant as to the claims of out-of-state plaintiffs for personal injuries suffered outside of Illinois from a device manufactured outside of Illinois. The nonresident plaintiffs' claims (for personal injuries allegedly resulting from the use of permanent birth control device for women) did not arise out of or relate to Defendants' in-state activities. (A. BURKE, GARMAN, KARMEIER, and M. BURKE, concurring; KILBRIDE and NEVILLE, specially concurring.)
