Plaintiff filed a lawsuit alleging retaliation against his former employer after he was fired for refusing to complete an online unconscious bias training. Plaintiff alleged in the lawsuit that he was terminated in retaliation for his opposition to the training and to complaints he made about an email from a superior that he found offensive. The district court granted summary judgment in favor of the defendant and plaintiff appealed. The Seventh Circuit affirmed, finding that plaintiff’s retaliation claims lacked merit where the timing of his termination made it clear that it was caused by plaintiff’s failure to comply with the training requirement.
