On December 29, 2023, the Republic of South Africa filed its “Application Instituting Proceeding" with the International Court of Justice against the State of Israel, alleging that Israel's assault on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip constitutes a breach of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
