Richard L. Thies Professionalism Award

This award is to recognize outstanding accomplishments in advocating and preserving a strong, independent, and self-governing legal profession through the support of longstanding core professional values that promote the public interest, meaningful access to legal services, and further public understanding and confidence in the rule of law and the justice system. 

This award will be given only when it is demonstrated that there are worthy recipients.  It need not be awarded annually. 

Eligibility

  • Any lawyer licensed in the State of Illinois is eligible for the Award.
  • No ISBA President shall be eligible for the Award until five years after the conclusion of their presidency.

Nomination Process

Nominations of qualified lawyers are to be submitted in writing to the Standing Committee on Scope and Correlation, which will have the responsibility to review the submissions and make recommendations to the Board of Governors.
