In his November Illinois Bar Journal article, “Coronavirus & Disability Insurance: Trends to Follow,” David A. Bryant notes that 2020 and 2021 have been defined, in great part, by the COVID-19 pandemic. While vaccination efforts are providing a glimmer of hope, the novel coronavirus will affect our lives—and disability insurance claims—for the foreseeable future. 

Applications Now Open for 2022-23 ISBA Rural Practice Fellowship Programs

The ISBA’s Rural Practice Initiative Committee created the Rural Practice Fellowship Programs in 2020 to increase access to attorneys in rural areas of Illinois. The aim of the program is to connect rural and small-town attorneys and law firms looking to hire summer law clerks and full-time associates with law students and newer attorneys interested in practicing law in rural areas of Illinois.

Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila LLP (RSHC) welcomes new partner Kalia Coleman to the firm’s Government Enforcement, Investigations & White Collar Criminal Defense practice. 

Coleman joins the firm following nearly six years with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, where she most recently served as Deputy Chief of the General Crimes Division. 

Chief Justice and Illinois Mental Health Task Force to Host Mental Health Summit Report Release Web Event and Issue a Call to Action

The prevalence of mental illness and co-occurring disorders is greatly impacting our nation, each of our states, and our communities, and has a disproportionate effect on our courts and justice system. As part of that National Initiative, the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators hosted a Midwest Regional Summit in October 2019 in Deadwood, South Dakota. Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne M. Burke and Illinois State Court Administrator Marcia Meis assembled and led an Illinois delegation at the Summit.
