ISBA to honor Hutchinson, Stuart at Celebrating Women Luncheon
The Illinois State Bar Association will present "Celebrating Women in the Profession: Reach Out and Build Our Future" on Tuesday, March 9, at noon at the Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Court in Chicago.
ISBA President John O’Brien will present Presidential Commendation Awards to 2nd District Appellate Justice Susan F. Hutchinson and Cook County Circuit Judge Jane L. Stuart.
Judge Hutchinson received her B.A. in political science from Quincy University in 1971 and her J.D. from DePaul University School of Law in 1977. She served as an Assistant State's Attorney in McHenry County (1977-81) and a Judge in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit (1981-94). In November 1994, she was elected as a Judge in the Appellate Court, Second District.
Judge Stuart received her B.S. degree in education from Chicago State University in 1970 and her J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1985. She was the first African-American to be elected as a Student Bar Association Officer. She was an Attorney Examiner at Chicago Title Insurance Co. from 1985-1987 before moving on to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office from 1987-1996. She was elected as a Cook County Circuit Court Judge in 1996.
