The Illinois Supreme Court will leave the Illinois Supreme Court Building in Springfield behind for a day and “ride the circuit” to hear oral arguments at Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale on March 18, 2025.
The Supreme Court will hear arguments in two cases starting at 10 a.m. (all guests are asked to be seated by 9:30 a.m.), on Tuesday, March 18, at the SIU Student Center, located at 1255 Lincoln Dr. in Carbondale. The cases before the court will be People v. Hoffman and Hulsh v. Hulsh.

For a man without vision, Robert “Bob” Watson was certainly not short on vision. Watson, a longtime local attorney and Lewis and Clark Community College board trustee and chairman died Saturday at the age of 87.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville. Hannah Brenner Johnson, professor of law and vice dean for academic affairs at California Western School of Law, will become the next dean of the Southern Illinois University Simmons Law School.
Sheryl Tucker, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, today (Nov. 14) announced Brenner Johnson's appointment, effective July 1, subject to approval by the SIU Board of Trustees.
The national search for dean included a “very competitive pool of highly qualified candidates,” said Tucker, adding that Brenner Johnson “was the desired candidate across all constituents.”

The National Conference of Bar Examiners is offering a $1,500 paid opportunity for July 2024 bar examinees!
In October 2024, the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) will conduct a nationwide prototype exam for the NextGen bar exam, which is currently under development. The prototype exam is a full-length, 9-hour pre-test over two days of the new bar exam question types and format that will debut in July 2026. The Illinois prototype exam will be held October 25-26, 2024 in Chicago, Champaign, and Carbondale.
