Dedication of the Honorable George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building
A ceremony was held recently to commemorate the renaming of the Cook County Criminal Court Building at 26th Street and California Avenue in Chicago to the Honorable George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building. Members of the Illinois Supreme Court, Illinois Appellate Court, Circuit Court of Cook County, United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois participated in the ceremony, as well as a number of elected officials and the friends and family of Judge Leighton. Judge Leighton, who is now 99 years of age, was an acclaimed civil and criminal attorney who practiced law in that buillding before ascending the bench to become a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, a Justice on the Illinois Appellate Court, and a Judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
