Howard & Howard Attorneys PLLC is pleased to announce that Michael J. Gilmartin has joined the firm.  He will practice out of the firm’s Chicago Office.

Mr. Gilmartin focuses his practice on the financial industry, representing regional financial institutions, community banks and private equity firms in a variety of transactional and litigation matters. He works closely with his clients to facilitate cost-effective, resourceful solutions that meet their short and long-term needs. Mr. Gilmartin’s practice also encompasses real estate and corporate matters, advising clients on critical legal issues such as strategy mapping, reviewing loan documentation for defects or weaknesses, handling in and out of court workouts and restructuring transactions, and facilitating real estate transactions.

Mr. Gilmartin received his B.A. from St. Xavier University in 1999 and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 2003. After graduating from law school, Mr. Gilmartin tried dozens of cases to verdict through both bench and jury trials as an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney. In this role, he prosecuted crimes in the First and Sixth Municipal Districts and Narcotics Prosecution Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Gilmartin worked in the financial services industry. During this time, he gained valuable experience resolving post-closing, recording and legal issues at a Chicago title insurance company, serving as a closing coordinator managing real estate closings for an Illinois law firm, and supporting the legal department of a prominent financial institution.

Mr. Gilmartin is licensed to practice in the State of Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
