The Illinois Supreme Court announced Thursday that April G. Troemper, who presently serves as Associate Judge in the Seventh Judicial Circuit, has been appointed as at-large Circuit Judge for that Circuit.

Judge Troemper was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Patrick J. Londrigan on December 8, 2014. Judge Londrigan had served as Circuit Judge since 2004. Judge Troemper’s appointment is effective April 2, 2015, and will continue until the position is filled by the November 2016 General Election.

Chief Justice Rita B. Garman recommended the appointment of Judge Troemper after a review process by a special citizen screening committee, which found Judge Troemper very well-qualified for the position.

"Every day that I've taken the bench for the past five years, I've reminded myself that each case is unique, each case deserves its own attention and each case will result in an outcome that may forev-er change someone's life. My heart has been and always will be dedicated to public service, and I will forever be grateful to Chief Justice Garman, the entire Illinois Supreme Court and the screening committee for having confidence in me to take my experience to the next level," said Judge Troemper.

"I also want to thank my colleagues for giving me the foundation and proper training to do the work of a circuit judge. I am looking forward to this transition, and I pledge to continue to work hard and will do all I can to promote public trust in our judicial system."
Judge Troemper graduated from Eastern Illinois University, where she earned a B.A. in political science in 1994 and an M.A. degree in political science in 1995. She received her J.D. degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1998.

Since December 1, 2009, she has served as Associate Circuit Court Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit. Prior to taking the bench, she worked at the law firms of Graham & Graham, Ltd., from 1998-2003, Heyl Royster from 2003-2007, and Sorling Northrup from 2007-2009.

She is currently the president of the Sangamon County Bar Association and the Profession of Leadership Foundation and has served as chairperson of the Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council. In addition, she has served on the Board of Governors and the Assembly of the Illinois State Bar Association, as a board member of the Illinois Bar Foundation, and as president of the Central Illinois Women’s Bar Association. As a judge, she has been on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Judges Association and was appointed to the Illinois Judicial Conference Juvenile Justice Study Committee and teaching faculty.

A resident of Springfield, Judge Troemper is married and has two children.

The special citizen screening committee, which was appointed by Chief Justice Garman to review the candidates, consisted of four non-lawyer members and three lawyers. The non-lawyer members were Jim Bruner of Jacksonville, Terry Martin of Springfield, Richard Schien of Carlinville, and Jennifer Gill, Springfield Superintendent of Schools. The attorney members were Carl Kasten of Carlinville and Claire Manning and Peggy Ryan, both of Springfield.

The Seventh Judicial Circuit consists of Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Morgan, Sangamon, and Scott counties.
