Robert F. Coleman, 70, of River Forest, died on May 24, 2015. Born on Dec. 14, 1944 in Chicago to the late Clayton and Helen Coleman, he served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and later enjoyed a successful career as a commercial litigator, first as an assistant Illinois attorney general and then in private practice. He ran for Illinois Attorney General.

His generosity knew no bounds, particularly when it came to improving education. He served on the boards of trustees of Dominican University, Trinity High School, Fenwick High School and St. Luke Parish School. 

Mr. Coleman served as chairman of Fire and Police Commission, and at the first village board meeting after his death, Village President Catherine Adduci called Coleman a River Forest institution.

"He was a personal mentor to me. I used to talk to him quite frequently about village business because he knew a lot. He was a stalwart activist in our community," Adduci said.

According to a comment on the village website, "His long-term commitment of service for the village of River Forest and its residents will be sorely missed."

Bob Coleman is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Marcia (nee Nogal); his daughter and son-in-law, Cassie and Sean Crotty; his grandsons, Brendan, Ryan and Colin Crotty; and his siblings, Carol (Roger) Brice and Richard (late Mary) Coleman.
