Joseph “Jody” V. Toohill, Jr. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, February 29, 2016.

He was born in Peoria, IL, September 30, 1942, the son of Joseph, Sr. and Juanita (Taggert) Toohill. They preceded him in death.

He married Diane L. Myers on September 16, 1967 Canton, IL. She survives along with 3 daughters: Sarah Elizabeth Borkowski (Michael) of Inverness, IL. Kathleen Anne Palmer (Jeff) of Washington, IL., and Jennifer Jean Currey (John) of Savoy, IL, 6 grandchildren: Jacob Palmer, Alexandra Palmer, Isabelle Borkowski, Victoria Borkowski, Matthew Currey, and Kathryn Currey, 2 sisters: Judith A. Toohill of Farmington and Jeanne C. Flaherty of Gulfport, FL.

He was a graduate of Farmington High School in 1960, received his BS at Saint Ambrose College in Davenport, IA, in 1964, and the degree of Juris Doctor at Creighton University in Omaha, NE, in 1967. He practiced law at Toohill Law Office in Farmington.

Joseph served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and in a Judge Advocate General’s Office in Seoul, South Korea.

He served on the Board of the Bank of Farmington from 1977 – 2015 and was Chairman from 1984 – 2015. He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Fulton County Bar Association.  He also served on the Foundation Board for Spoon River College and the Fulton County Zoning Board of Appeals. He was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, Farmington, where he served as a reader and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the Farmington Rotary Club where he served as president and was a Paul Harris Fellow, the American Legion, the VFW, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Elmwood Country Club where he served on the board, Ducks Unlimited, and the Farmington Library Board.

He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golfing, hunting, bowling, boating, movies and morning coffee at the Senior Citizens Center where he was “the final authority” on all things important.  As it says under his picture in his high school yearbook “As usual, I’m right.”

He had a nickname for almost everyone he knew and the worse the name the better he liked you.  He had a very quick wit and loved telling jokes.  Some were so good that he had repeat requests to tell them over and over.  He loved his home town of “Charmington” and his family. He was always asking when the kids could come to visit.
