Gregory Andrew Brown 1968-2016
Gregory Andrew Brown, 47, of Sycamore completed his life story on September 11, 2016 after a fierce nine-month battle with cancer.
Greg entered the world in Newport News, Virginia on October 2, 1968, son of Virginia and Ralph Brown. He spent much of his childhood living abroad in Spain, relocating for a short time to Beaumont, Texas before moving to Barrington, Illinois after finishing middle school. He attended Barrington High School where he met his future wife Donna and proceeded to follow her to the University of Illinois (though he might tell a slightly different version of the story). After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, he headed to DeKalb where he attended law school at Northern Illinois University. He graduated in 1993 and was sworn into the Illinois Bar the same year.
Following graduation Greg clerked for Rissman and Krasner in DeKalb before joining the law firm of Wilson, Camic, and Colton where he remained until he began his 22-year career with the Kane County Public Defender’s office in early 1994. There he fought proudly for the rights of those who otherwise may have fallen through the cracks of the criminal justice system. He was passionate about his work as a criminal defense attorney and loved his colleagues with whom he had the privilege to work alongside for so many years.
Greg & Donna married in October of 1992 and the Moulton-Brown family was created. In January of 1995 they welcomed their firstborn daughter, Devin, who instantly became the light of her dad’s life. Two short years later their second daughter, Drew, made her arrival and completed their family. They shared their home over the years with their adopted cats Fargo, Frampton, Figaro, Frodo and Fergus and pups Midas, Marigold and Gemma.
Greg was an active member and secretary of the Sycamore Lion’s Club until the time of his diagnosis. His took great pride in the work done by the Lions in and around their community. The Beautiful Game captured his heart after he had the opportunity to coach his daughter Drew and the Sycamore Syclones, a team that at the time was new to the community. He had the ability to always sniff out a soccer game and never missed watching the Chicago Fire, even as winning eluded them the past few seasons, and more recently the Valpo Crusaders, especially when his daughter was between the pipes.
Greg & Donna’s shared love of all things Disney led them to combine vacation and sport as they trained as a team & completed several Disney half marathons over the past few years.
Greg enjoyed nothing more than to set out on an adventure on his Harley, especially when he was joined by Donna and Gemma the Chihuahua who would rest her head on his shoulder as he drove, enjoying the view with her favorite humans. Family always remained first in Greg’s life and that was evident to all as he was an incredibly devoted husband and loving father. His greatest accomplishment in life was, by far, his daughters and the amazing young women they have grown into.
Greg is survived by his three favorite girls - his wife Donna Moulton and their daughters, Devin and Drew Moulton, his brothers Timothy and Jeffrey Brown, and his furkids Marigold, Gemma and Fergus. He is preceded in death by his father Ralph Brown and his mother Virginia Turner.
