Illinois Supreme Court Rules Committee to Hold Public Hearing on March 26
The Illinois Supreme Court Rules Committee is scheduled to hold a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 N. LaSalle Street, in Chicago.
Illinois Supreme Court Rules proposals or proposed rule amendments are offered by the bench, bar, or public. They are then reviewed by the Rules Committee and placed on the agenda for public hearing if the proposal is determined to have merit. Public comments on the proposals are invited. Written comments and testimony scheduling requests should be submitted to the committee secretary by e-mail at jzekich@illinoiscourts.gov or mailed to Committee Secretary, Supreme Court Rules Committee, 222 N. LaSalle Street, 13th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601.
On the agenda for the March 26 hearing are the following proposals:
- Proposal 15-03 (P.R. 0228): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to create Supreme Court Rules to standardize pleading requirements in certain types of consumer debt collection cases.
- Proposal 16-05 (P.R. 0236): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to amend Supreme Rule 113(i) to clarify that special representatives appointed to represent deceased mortgagors in foreclosure actions are entitled to costs and attorney fees for their services.
- Proposal 17-01 (P.R. 0240): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to amend Supreme Court Rule 214(a) to clarify the triggering event for the 28-day period.
- Proposal 17-02 (P.R. 0241): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to create a Supreme Court Rule to address a lawyer serving in a collaborative process.
- Proposal 17-05 (P.R. 0244): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to amend Supreme Rule 274 to clarify that the post-judgment motion is not due until the judgment order is both final and appealable.
- Proposal 17-07 (P.R. 0246): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to create a Supreme Court Rule establishing a privilege for statements made during the course of a restorative justice practice.
- Proposal 17-12 (P.R. 0251): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to amend Supreme Rules 201-212 to eliminate the discovery/evidence deposition dichotomy to adopt a single deposition.
- Proposal 18-03 (P.R. 0254): The Rules Committee seeks comments on a proposal to create a rule requiring that a copy of the predicate written demand, termination notice, proof of service of the demand or notice and, where applicable, relevant portions of the lease be attached to the eviction complaint at the time of filing.
