John P. Andringa 1928-2021

John Peter Andringa, 92, formerly of Palos Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2021, surrounded by family. A private service will be held at a later time, due to Covid-19 mitigation measures.

John was born May 23, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. He married his beloved wife of 60 years, Jane Wilken Andringa, on September 10, 1960. John graduated from Loyola University in 1952 and received his law degree from Loyola in 1958. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954 and in the US Army Reserve as a Major in the Judge Advocate General's Corps until 1969. He worked for many years as a Trust Officer for LaSalle National Bank and Chicago City Bank, and was Vice President and Head of the Trust Department at Beverly Bank. In 1969, he left banking to form his own law practice, Andringa & Associates, and spent several decades practicing Estate Law and Elder Law in Palos Heights, Illinois.

He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and a frequent speaker for the South Suburban Estate Planning Council and the Illinois Continuing Legal Education organization. He wrote numerous articles for the Palos Regional newspaper, discussing complex topics in his areas of specialty. For many years, he was actively involved with the Community Center Foundation in Palos Park, Illinois. John enjoyed Japanese landscape gardening, traveling, classical music, and spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren. He was very proud of his Dutch heritage and often communicated with his relatives from the Netherlands.

He is survived by his cherished spouse, Jane Wilken Andringa; children Joy (John) Barker of Oak Forest, Illinois, Van Andringa of Hammond, Indiana, and Dirk (Michelle) Andringa of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; grandchildren Katie (Derek) Pahnke of Woodridge, Illinois, Abigail, Patrick and Jacqueline Barker of Oak Forest, Illinois, and Jack, Ben and Grace Andringa of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Katherine (Jansen) Andringa, his sisters, Arnolda (Tom Seery) (Owen) Thuerk, Petronella (Robert) McFadden, Ruth Andringa, and his dear cousin Richard (Ann) Andringa.
