Marshall J. Hartman, age 87, passed away on September 21, 2021. 

Marshall, recipient of the 2017 Illinois State Bar Association Laureate Award, was a 1957 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. He was instrumental in establishing offices and policies for the defense of indigents in Cook County and across the United States. Among other positions, he was appointed the Public Defender for Lake County, IL, (1987-91) and he went on to lead the Capital Resource Center at the Office of the Illinois State Appellate Defender. 

Beloved husband for 60 years of Patricia "Pat" G. Hartman, nee Henig. Adoring father of Ann (Dr. Michael) Luban, Judy (Aaron) Gadiel, Danny (Lindsey) Hartman, and Clay (Robin) Springer. Proud and loving Papa of Rebecca, Marc, Adam, Rachel, Joshua, Henry, Scarlett, James, and Jill. Dear brother of Evelyn (Saul) Liskin and the late Herbert Hartman.
