ISBA Statement on Ukraine

As President of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), I stand with Ukraine and its people as they defend their sovereign nation from the Russian Federation’s unlawful and unprovoked attack and invasion. Since its founding, the Association has been committed to supporting, defending, and promoting the rule of law and democracy. There is no greater threat to the rule of law than allowing to go unchecked one nation’s unprovoked and unlawful invasion of a sovereign, democratic nation that it shares a border with. It is my highest hope that this unfortunate and horrific situation is resolved as swiftly and peacefully as possible. In the meantime, the ISBA offers thanks to the nations surrounding Ukraine, especially Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, and their people for not only opening their borders to the refugees created by this crisis, but also opening their homes.

Thank You Anna for stepping up to the plate. Please send your statement to local bars and the law bulletin.

Mr. Komie,

What is your response if I told you that local bars are hesitant to issue a statement regarding Ukraine?

Anna - a fine, firm and principled statement. Thank you.
