Stephen W. Baker passed away June 10, 2022, in Park Ridge, IL. He was a resident of Des Plaines, IL.

He was born October 5, 1952, in Harvey, IL, to Josephine (Garfield) and Walter H. Baker. Steve grew up in Hazel Crest, IL, and attended Western Illinois University. He got his J.D. in 1978 from Loyola University Law School, Chicago, and was a practicing attorney until 2019, when he retired from the Office of the Cook County Public Defender. In 2012 Steve was honored by receipt of "The Promotion of Social Justice Award" by the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Steve was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Joy E. Mason-Baker.

He loved playing golf and fishing and being with family.

He is survived by his sister, Susan (Michael) Schumer of Mt. Prospect and his nephews Peter Schumer (Mary Mitchell) of New York state; and Christopher (Catherine Ro) Schumer, and grand-nephew Ben Schumer and grand-niece Emma Schumer, of Chicago. Steve leaves behind many friends and cousins, who remember him dearly.

Memorial visitation Friday, June 17, 10:00 a.m. until Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Elmhurst Rd. (Rt. 83) at Lincoln St., Mt. Prospect. Visitation continues Friday, June 17, 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. at Northwest Highway, Mt. Prospect. Interment private.
