The ISBA makes me a better lawyer because its work makes all of us better lawyers. In particular, I really appreciate its emphasis on providing assistance to smaller firms and sole practitioners. Unlike some bar associations that cater primarily to the larger law firms, the ISBA is an all inclusive organization, working with all of its members throughout the state to provide the information we need to maintain and improve our professional skills and help our practices become and remain successful. Through its many section councils and other groups, members are given an opportunity to meet fellow practitioners to share experiences and to participate in the determining the course of the association. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the excellent work the ISBA performs in monitoring and filtering the mountains of legislation that pour in from state legislators, so many of which would have a direct impact upon our practices. Additionally, the association actively seeks input from its section councils regarding legislation that may need to be addressed and acted upon, whether good or bad. Lastly, it invites members to submit legislation that it may elect to sponsor and seek to have approved by the legislature, which usually is a mind numbing process, but which, through its perseverance, has oftentimes led to improvements in state law. My gratitude and appreciation to the ISBA. The many years I have invested in the association have provided a great return on that investment.
