Much Ado About Little
In her October 2024 Illinois Bar Journal article, “Much Ado About Little,” Katherine Hanson questions whether, as some legal scholars have claimed, that the COVID-19 pandemic may have paved the way toward extinction of the doctrine of forum non conveniens due to the technological innovations the pandemic ushered in. Hanson concedes that the “pandemic and its associated increase in technological reliance have somewhat refined the doctrine,” but argues “not to such a hyperbolic extent as these scholars and critics assert.” Illinois courts are also not so quick to leave the doctrine behind, she adds, and goes on to show the doctrine is alive and well in the state.
