Forrest David Laidley, age 72, unexpectedly passed away October 3, 2016. David was born in Glenview, Illinois on May 14th, 1944. He graduated from Yale University in 1966 as Captain of the Football team, and went on to be Captain of the Chicago Lions Rugby Club 1968-1970. He later obtained a Juris Doctorate of Law from DePaul University. David served as General Counsel of Archdiocese of Chicago under Cardinal George Bernadin. Afterwards, he served as a private attorney.

Prominent attorney, Arthur O. Kane, a lifelong resident of Chicago, died Saturday, October 1st, 2016 peacefully in his sleep. Mr. Kane was a recognized authority in the field of worker's compensation law and occupational diseases, and was often referred to as the "Dean of Worker's Compensation Attorneys". He leaves surviving his wife Esther, nee Abrams, grandchildren Eric Steinback, Adam Steinback, Scott Slavin, Sean Slavin and son and daughter, James Steinback (Joanne) and Barbara Buskin (Arthur) and six great grandchildren. Services have been held.

Phil Caldwell Neal, 97, former Dean of The University of Chicago Law School and a founding partner of the Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg law firm, died in Chicago on September 27, 2016.
Born in Chicago, Phil grew up Oak Park, IL, attending Oak Park & River Forest High School. A full scholarship took him to Harvard College where he received his A.B. summa cum laude in 1940, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was elected President of the Student Council. At Harvard Law School he served as President of the Harvard Law Review, graduating in 1943. Following law school, Phil served almost two years as law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson.

Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Gerald V. Cleary as a Cook County Circuit Judge in the 10th Subcircuit.
Judge Cleary was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Donald J. Suriano, who is retiring on Nov. 2, 2016.
The appointment takes effect Nov. 3, 2016 and will terminate on Dec. 3, 2018, when the position will be filled by the 2018 General Election.

James P. Gallagher, born June 18, 1938, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Jim is survived by his ten children: Beth (Curt) Coolidge; Anne (Dan) Feely; Jim Gallagher, Jr. (Bridget Stanis); Ellen (Tim) Kane; Lynne (Chris) Nanson; John (Carrie) Gallagher; Nancy (Matt) Graham; Michael (Isabel) Gallagher; Sarah (Tucker) McDermott; and Matthew Gallagher (Meg Hanley). He will be lovingly remembered by his 19 grandchildren: Brendan, Ryan and Jack Coolidge; Lauren, Caitlin and Sarah Feely; Timothy and Edward Kane; Elizabeth, Tessa and Natalie Nanson; Chuck and Will Gallagher; Nora and Genevieve Graham; Eva Gallagher; Sydney, Tucker and Christian McDermott. He is survived by his partner, Carol Pierce, and his siblings Sari (Dan) Nagle, Mary (Dave) O'Brien and Margaret (Aunt Margie). He was a fond uncle of 11 nieces and nephews.
