The Illinois Office of Comptroller has named Debjani Desai as its general counsel to serve as the office’s main attorney and advise the comptroller on matters affecting the office.
Desai served as assistant general counsel in the Litigation and Eligibility group for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, where she managed state and federal litigation and provided counsel to staff throughout Illinois.

The Hon. Richard D. Felice (ISBA President 2014-2015) was formally sworn in as a circuit judge on Jan. 30 in DuPage County.
Several ISBA leaders, including ISBA President David B. Sosin, ISBA Past President Hon. James F. McCluskey, and ISBA Past President Hon. Vincent F. Cornelius, attended the ceremony.
Judge Felice was appointed circuit judge of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit effective Nov. 4, 2019 through Dec. 7, 2020.

Perkins Coie has announced that Michael Hanahan has joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner in the Construction practice.
Hanahan represents commercial and public project owners and other industry participants on a wide variety of construction-related matters, including contract drafting and negotiations, disputes, and overall contract administration. He also provides procurement counsel to government entities and private organizations, which in the past has included public entities in Chicago. In recent years, Michael has helped draft and negotiate contracts with a combined value of over $2 billion.

On Jan. 21, the Chicago office of Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C., celebrated the opening of the new Norwegian Honorary Consulate for Illinois—located at Greensfelder—and introduced Greensfelder Officer Susan Meyer as the newly appointed Norwegian Honorary Consul.
In conjunction with Meyer’s appointment late last year, Greensfelder’s Chicago office was designated by Norway’s Foreign Ministry as the Norwegian Honorary Consulate. Norway’s Honorary Consul assists with consular affairs and helps to facilitate development of business, cultural and educational relations between Norway and the United States.

The deadline to submit nominating petitions for the ISBA election is Friday, Jan. 31, at 4:30 p.m. at either the Illinois Bar Center, 424 S. 2nd St., Springfield, or the Chicago Regional Office at 20 S. Clark St., Suite 900, Chicago.
Members of the ISBA will elect a third vice president, two Board of Governors seats in Cook County, and 21 seats for Cook County Assembly.
One board seat is open in each of the following Areas: Area 3 (Circuits 12, 13, 16, 21, and 23), Area 4 (Circuits 10, 14 and 15), Under Age 37 – Cook County, and Under Age 37 Outside Cook County (Circuits 1-23).
