Bringing the Courtroom to the Classroom
This innovative program is designed to bring civics education about the legal system and courts in Illinois to students throughout the State.
Judges and lawyers are now being invited to make presentations together. Complimentary training of 45-60 minutes is required and will next be provided and videotaped on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Chicago Regional Office of the ISBA, at 20 S. Clark Street, 9th Floor, Chicago, Illinois, by Judges Clare McWilliams, Eileen O'Neill Burke, and Mike Chmiel.

Four Awards Acknowledge Substantial Public Interest & Pro Bono Contributions in Illinois
On Wednesday, December 3, the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) will host its Annual Awards Luncheon, an event that celebrates the very best aspects of the legal profession: the generosity, expertise and commitment of lawyers, law students, legal professionals, law firms and corporations dedicating themselves to serving low-income clients in need.
This year, PILI is proud to honor the following four award recipients:- Distinguished Public Service Award: Diana C. White, LAF
- Distinguished PILI Fellow Alumni Award: Andrew W. Vail, Jenner & Block LLP
- Distinguished PILI Intern Alumni Award: Matthew T. Jenkins, Corboy & Demetrio P.C.
- Pro Bono Initiative Award: Dentons US LLP
PILI will also present a special President’s Award to Foley & Lardner LLP in recognition of the firm’s generosity in hosting PILI’s offices for the past 10 years.
PILI’s Annual Awards Luncheon will be held on December 3 from 11:30-1:30 at the Palmer House Hilton, 17 East Monroe Street, in Chicago. Sponsored by over 50 law firms, corporations, foundations and law schools, this event will be attended by over 450 members of the Illinois legal community, including firm and corporate attorneys, members of the judiciary and government sector, law school deans, professors and students, and staff members from PILI’s many partner nonprofit legal service agencies across the state. Initially created to assist with the opening of children's waiting rooms in courthouses across the State of Illinois, the IBF/YLD Children's Assistance Fund has since grown, and now provides funding to organizations across the State of Illinois that provide legal assistance to children, maintain children's waiting rooms in courthouses, work to reduce recidivism of juveniles, and/or work to reduce the incidents of domestic violence in families with children.

Highlights include an Opening Reception, a luncheon presentation by Attorney General of the United States Eric H. Holder, Jr., and an evening celebration honoring the Justices of the Supreme Court of Illinois. Additional programs and business meetings will be held throughout the conference. All this camaraderie takes place at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, steps away from the holiday pageantry Chicago offers during this time of year. Advance registration ends Dec. 5.

Northwestern University School of Law took first place honors in the Midwest Regional of the American Bar Association’s Employment Law Trial Advocacy Competition – held November 15-16 at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. Second place honors went to another Chicago law school: IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. Northwestern will advance to the National Finals in New Orleans on January 24-25, 2015.
Northwestern and Chicago-Kent were two of 18 teams competing from across the Midwest region, including Baylor, Indiana University, The John Marshall Law School, Southern Illinois University, University of Cincinnati, University of Mississippi, University of Missouri, Washington University and Tulane University.
The Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association sponsored the 11th annual competition with a total of 99 teams from 8 regions across the nation, including the Midwest region. Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer, of the Northern District of Illinois, judged the Finals of the Midwest Regional Competition in Chicago. Sitting judges, prominent employment lawyers and law professors served as evaluators. -

The Illinois State Bar Association will honor the Class of 1964 Distinguished Counsellors on Thursday, Nov. 20. This title is conferred annually upon those ISBA members who are completing their 50th year of practice.
The 2014 Class will be honored at a special luncheon at The Standard Club located at 320 South Plymouth Court, Chicago on Thursday, November 20, 2014. A reception will begin at 11:15 a.m., and lunch is scheduled for noon. You and your colleagues will be recognized during the formal program following lunch.
Honorees receive one complimentary ticket to attend the luncheon. Additional tickets may be purchased in advance at $75 per person. Members of the “Class” and their guest(s) will be seated at special tables, each seating 10 persons. All tickets will be held for pick up at our registration table immediately prior to the luncheon.
