A program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale later this month in honor of United Nations Day will examine international justice models.
"The International Criminal Court and Other Models for International Justice," is set for 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Hiram H. Lesar Law Building Courtroom, room 109, at the SIU School of Law.
The program is free and open to the public. Cindy Buys, an associate professor and director of international law programs at the SIU School of Law, will be the moderator. A reception follows the program in the law school's formal lounge.

The Chicago Alumni Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International, will initiate Hon. George N. Leighton as an Honorary Member of the fraternity on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. This ceremony will be followed by remarks delivered by Judge Leighton as part of the Chapter's "Distinguished Lecture Series." Upon conclusion of Judge Leighton's remarks, a complimentary hors d'oeuvre reception will follow. The event will take place at Petterino's Banquets (Lower Level), 50 W. Randolph. The 2009 Unity Dinner and Seventh-Annual Swearing-In of Bar Presidents co-sponsored by the Filipino American Bar Association and the John Marshall Law School will be held on Thursday, October 8th, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 S. Michigan Avenue. The 2009 Unity Award honoree is Jerold S. Solovy, Chairman Emeritus, Jenner & Block LLP. In addition, Hon. Shelvin Louise Marie Hall of the Illinois Appellate Court, and William A. Von Hoene, Jr., Executive Vice President, Finance and Legal, Exelon Corp., are this year's recipients of the 2009 Advocate for Diversity Award. Over 50 area bar associations are participating in this year's event, whose leaders will take a ceremonial oath to promote diversity within their groups and the larger Chicago legal community administered by Justice Anne M. The event raised nearly $10,000 for the IBF/YLD Children's Assistance Fund. The Women's Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) is seeking nominations for its 2009 "Women with Vision" Awards. The awards will be presented at the WBAI Joint Professional Dinner, on Thursday, November 5, 2009. The "Women with Vision" Awards were first presented in 1997 by the WBAI to honor and recognize women who have demonstrated visionary approaches in their professional endeavors and who have made a contribution to the well-being and empowerment of women. Nominees may be chosen from various professions, including law, medicine, academics, public office, business/entrepreneur, trades/labor, journalism, community/religious service, etc. WBAI members are invited to apply for or nominate candidates for the "Women with Vision" Awards.
