Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will be the keynote speaker at a noon luncheon on Friday, December 13, during the Midyear Meeting of the Illinois Judges Association and Illinois State Bar Association at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, 301 E. North Water Street.
The joint meeting, to be held December 12-14, will include the annual Illinois Bar Foundation Fellows Awards Breakfast on Friday at 7:30 a.m. IBF will honor Ruben Castillo, chief judge for the Northern District of Illinois, with the “Honorary Fellows Award,” and Roger G. Fein, a judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County, with the “Distinguished Service to Law and Society Award.”
Two joint IJA/ISBA programs will be presented on Friday morning: “The Pitfalls of Running for Judicial Office” and “The Intersection of Technology and Law: The Impact of Social Media, Mobile Devices, the Internet and More.” Additionally, the ISBA will conduct two Master Series CLE seminars featuring nationally acclaimed speaker, Steven Stark, on “Speaking to Win: Building Effective Communication Skills” and “Legal Writing in the Smartphone Age.”
The ISBA and The Chicago Bar Association will co-host a reception and dinner Friday evening for the Illinois Supreme Court, with remarks delivered by Chief Justice Rita B. Garman. The ISBA Assembly will convene on Saturday morning.

At the December 14, 2013 meeting of the ISBA Assembly, two “under 35" delegates to the ABA House of Delegates will be elected, one from Cook County and one from the area outside Cook County. The nominees for these positions must be members of the ISBA in good standing from the appropriate area and under the age of 35 as of Aug. 12, 2014. The elected delegates will serve for two-year terms commencing June 2014 and will join the ISBA delegation at the ABA meeting in Boston in August 2014.
The current incumbents are Kelley Gandurski of Chicago, who is not eligible for re-election and Christina Cullom of Springfield, who is eligible for re-election.
Nominations must be made in writing by at least 20 ISBA members in good standing from the appropriate area. Nominations must be filed with the office of the Executive Director no later than Monday, Nov. 25, 2013. Simply meet with your mentee a minimum of eight times throughout the year to complete the structured curriculum that will be provided at orientation. The Illinois State Bar Association will honor the Class of 1963 Distinguished Counsellors on Thursday, Nov. 14. This title is conferred annually upon those ISBA members who are completing their 50th year of practice.
The Class will be honored during a special luncheon at the Union League Club of Chicago located at 65 West Jackson Street. A reception will begin at 11:15 a.m., and lunch is scheduled for noon.
Honorees receive one complimentary ticket to attend the luncheon. Additional tickets may be purchased in advance at $75 per person. Members of the “Class” and their guest(s) will be seated at special tables, each seating 10 persons. All tickets will be held for pick up at our registration table immediately prior to the luncheon.
