    Nordic lawyers plan codfish dinner

    The Nordic Law Club will celebrate the vernal equinox, an ancient pagan rite of spring, with its annual codfish dinner on Wednesday, March 21, in the Berghoff Restaurant, 17 W. Adams, Chicago.

    The organization will honor longtime member Don Schultz and present scholarships to six law students of Scandinavian heritage. The event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception, followed at 6:30 p.m. by a smorgasbord of traditional Swedish foods.

    Nordic lawyers to honor probate judges

    The Nordic Law Club has invited judges of the Cook County Probate Division to attend the annual Probate Night dinner as guests of honor. The event will take place Monday, Sept. 26, at the Chicago Yacht Club on Monroe Harbor.

    A 5 p.m. reception will precede the 6:30 p.m. dinner at which Presiding Judge Mary Ellen Coghlan will speak on behalf of the court. Reservations are $75 for Nordic Law Club members, and $85 for non-members and guests.

    Advance reservations with payments must be made by Sept. 21 with Treasurer David G. Clark, Canalia & Clark, Suite C, 419 Ridge Road, Munster, IN 46321. Nametags to serve as admission tickets will be held at the Yacht Club entrance.

    Nordic Law Club revives Lutefisk Golf Open
    After a four-year hiatus, the Nordic Law Club’s popular Lutefisk Open will resume on Monday, Aug. 22, at Mission Hills Country Club in Northbrook with a shotgun start at noon. The benefit will include 18 holes of golf, contests and prizes, a box lunch and plated dinner. Named for a Scandinavian food staple, the outing will help fund scholarships for meritorious international law students whose ancestry can be traced to any of the 89 countries that were visited by Viking-era Norsemen a millennium ago. Lutefisk is a form of dried codfish that Vikings could use as paddles, tools, weapons and, of course, sustenance during their long voyages of exploration. The cost of an individual ticket for the complete Lutefisk Open is $155 per person, or $65 for only the dinner. Opportunities for hole sponsorships and other scholarship contributions are available.     Nordic lawyers to hold smorgasbord
    The Nordic Law Club will hold its annual Spring Smorgasbord (formerly the codfish dinner) on Wednesday, May 18, in the Swedish American Museum, 5211 N. Clark, Chicago. The program includes a guided tour of the museum’s immigration exhibits. The event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception (beer, wine, aquavit and herring provided), followed at 6:30 p.m. by a smorgasbord of Swedish meatballs, salmon, codfish, salad, potatoes, and rice pudding with lingonberries.     Nordic lawyers to hold smorgasbord
    The Nordic Law Club will hold its annual Spring Smorgasbord and program on Monday, March 22, in the Tower Club on the 39th floor of Chicago’s Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive. The guest speaker, Prof. Anne-Marie Andreasson-Hogg of the Center for Scandinavian Studies at North Park University, will reveal mysteries of Viking mythology. The event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. cash-bar reception, followed at 6:30 p.m. by a festive array of Swedish meatballs, salmon and herring hors d’oeuvres, codfish, and rice pudding with lingonberries.
