    Bruce S. Terlep 1958-2017

    With much sadness, Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP announces the death of equity partner Bruce S. Terlep. Mr. Terlep, a partner in the firm’s Lisle, Ill. office, passed away suddenly last week.

    Mr. Terlep practiced with Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP since the firm’s inception in 1992. He served as national counsel for numerous global auto manufacturers for over two decades. Mr. Terlep was frequently asked to handle matters across the country in state and federal courts, litigating matters in approximately 30 jurisdictions and going to trial in more than 15 states. In addition, Mr. Terlep regularly counseled clients on legislative and statutory compliance concerning consumer-related issues.

    A resident of Naperville, Mr. Terlep was born October 29, 1958 in Elkhart, Indiana. He graduated magna cum laude from DePauw University in 1981 and from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1985, where he was Phi Beta Kappa. He joined the firm of Wildman, Harrold, Allen and Dixon out of law school, and then was one of the 13 attorneys who left the Wildman firm to found Swanson, Martin & Bell, LLP on June 1, 1992.

    Sheryl E. Fuhr 1954-2017

    Sheryl E. Fuhr, age 63, died on April 17, 2017 in her home in Berwyn, IL.

    She was born in Bronx, New York to Donald and Miriam (Lepow) Fuhr and was the oldest of three children. Sheryl spent her childhood in New York City, Orlando, Florida, Syracuse, New York and Highland Park, Illinois. After graduating from high school Sheryl attended South Hampton College. She then moved to San Francisco and ultimately attended the Golden Gate University School of Law. While attending law school Sheryl also worked in the halfway house system with significant satisfaction.

    Upon graduation from law school and passing the California bar exam, Sheryl decided to leave her beloved San Francisco and return to Chicago where she initially worked with other Attorneys before establishing her own law firm, Sheryl E. Fuhr & Associates, specializing in wills, trusts, estates, elder exploitation, probate, and guardianship litigation. Sheryl was gratified with her victory before the Illinois Supreme Court where the supreme court reversed an appellate court decision and affirmed a trial verdict in a guardianship proceeding after an extended trial.

    Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents and remarkable canine Shimar. She is survived by her sister Robin Shue, brother Richard, sister-in-law Catherine, and nieces and nephews Jessica and Matthew Chiarizio, Jeremy and Jill Shue, Alexandra Fuhr and Audrey Fuhr. Sheryl will be remembered for her passion for the law, caring of others, long discussions on a variety of topics, strong opinions, and enjoyment of reading and card games.

    Joseph E. Gregorich 1938-2017

    Joseph E. Gregorich died on April 6, 2017 in Marina del Rey, CA. 

    Born on January 21, 1938 in Joliet, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ann Gregorich. Joe attended St. Mary's Nativity and Joliet Catholic High School and went on to study engineering at St. Joseph's College and the University of Illinois. After graduating, Joe moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as an engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company for many years before attending Loyola Law School. He worked as an attorney at several firms, including Kirkland & Packard LLP and Schwartz & Janzen LLP, where he specialized in aviation and construction law. Joe argued a number of high-profile cases in state and federal courts and enjoyed serving as a mentor to young attorneys.

    Joe was a devoted sports fan-supporting both the Chicago Cubs and teams from his alma maters, including Joliet Catholic High School and the University of Illinois. He had a wide range of hobbies, including model trains, coin collecting, and being an airplane pilot. He also loved animals, especially his cats. Beloved by his extended family, Joe was proud of and generous with his nieces and nephews.

    Joe is survived by his sister, Patricia (Richard) Hellman; brother, Robert (Mary Jo); nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

    Louis E. Olivero 1932-2017

    Attorney Louis E. Olivero passed away April 20, 2017, at his home in Peru. He was 84. 

    A private Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Joseph’s Church, Peru. Burial was with full military honors at Peru City Cemetery on April 25, 2017. Arrangements were by Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.

    He was born June 5, 1932, in Spring Valley the youngest child of Charles and Jean (Mini) Olivero. He attended school in Dalzell and later graduated as the senior class president from Hall High School.

    Louis attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a B.S. in accounting. Following graduation, he was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the United States Air Force and entered pilot training where he earned his pilot wings and also a commercial pilot license. He served as a fighter pilot during the Korean Conflict and later joined the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations. Louis entered the U.S. Air Force Reserves after his tour of active duty ended and completed 26 years of honorable military service, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel.

    Following service to his country, Louis studied law at the University of Illinois, where he was elected senior class president and earned his J.D. While in college, he met and married Mary Louise Martin, who passed away on Oct. 8, 2003, after 50 years of marriage. They were the parents of four children, Douglas, David, Philip and Marcia.

    Robert K. McQueen 1920-2017

    Robert K. McQueen of Victory Lakes, Lindenhurst, but a longtime resident of Gurnee, died April 3, 2017 at age 96. A retired circuit judge, he was born on April 12, 1920 at Farragut, Iowa, where he was raised on a farm by his mother who was widowed when he was three. He held undergraduate and juris doctor degrees from the George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and was a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 25 years. On retirement as senior resident agent at Waukegan, Illinois, he became an assistant state's attorney for Lake County and was an adjunct professor of legal courses at the now Gateway Institute, Kenosha, Wisconsin. Appointed an associate judge in the Illinois 19th Judicial District in 1972, he later served as circuit and chief judge of the circuit.

    Judge McQueen was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and Lake County Bar Association (past-president of the latter), The Society of Former Agents of the FBI, the Gurnee Community Church, and the Honest Johns Club in Waukegan.

    Past memberships include Troop 77, BSA, Gurnee; The Halfway House Advisory Board; The Law Enforcement Advisory Committee of Lake County College; The Gurnee Lions and Exchange Clubs; and the Palmento Pine Country Club of Cape Coral, Florida, where he had wintered. A commissioned naval officer in World War II, he was honored by the Village of Gurnee in 1982 for service to the community and by the Illinois State Bar  Association in 2000 as a senior counselor after 50 years of membership.

    David Hauptmann 1947-2017

    David "Hauppy" Hauptmann passed away in April 2017. David was a resident of Harrisburg, Illinois at the time of passing.

    David graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1965 and he remained active with his HTHS classmates in cheering on the Bulldogs and participating in their activities. David went on to attend Southeastern Illinois College, graduating in 1967. After Southeastern, the next stop in Hauppy’s professional education was Southern Illinois University. He graduated from SIU in 1969. David then moved on to Champaign and the University of Illinois where he received his law degree in 1972. 

    David Hauptmann returned to Southern Illinois where he first practiced law in Pope County. He relocated back to Harrisburg, where he was elected Saline County State’s Attorney in 1980 and re-elected in 1984. He also served some time as assistant state’s attorney in Saline County. Until his retirement in 2016 David ran a successful practice aiding clients all around southeastern Illinois.

    David was member of Harrisburg Elks BPOE 1058 and Sons of the American Legion George Hart Post 167. He donated his time and resources to a variety of worthy causes throughout Saline County. When at home in Rudement he enjoyed his flowers and plants, gardening, feeding the birds, and listening to music. He was an accomplished bridge dancer, road trip singer, and popular music musicologist with none to compare. Above all, he was loved by many.

    Lawrence William "Bill" Reisch, Jr. 1928-2017

    Lawrence William "Bill" Reisch, Jr., 88, of Springfield, died at 10:15 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.

    Bill was born June 13, 1928 in Springfield, the son of Lawrence W. and Margaret McGowan Reisch. He married Elizabeth "Bitsy" Garvey on May 28, 1960 in Springfield. 

    Bill graduated from Springfield High School in 1946 and went on to attend the U.S. Naval Academy during WWII. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri and earned his law degree from Washington University. He served as an assistant states attorney of Sangamon County and was then in private practice before becoming an assistant attorney general in the Office of the Illinois Attorney General for 33 years. He then served as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel of the Illinois Department of Revenue until his retirement in 1993.

    Bill was admitted to practice at the U.S. Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, and the U.S. District Court in the Central District of Illinois. He was a member of the Sangamon County Bar Association, Sangamon Club, American Legion Post #32, Sangamon Historical Society, Springfield Art Association, Illinois State Museum Society, and St. Agnes Church. He volunteered as a docent at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum and for Central Illinois Senior Services. Bill had an interest in computers and enjoyed reading, playing golf, and spending time with his family.

    Camille Ada Oliver Hoffmann 1927-2017

    Camille Ada Oliver Hoffmann, 90, of Stuart, FL, and a former long-time resident of Naperville, IL, passed away under the care of Hospice of the Treasure Coast with her two daughters by her side. 

    She was born March 13, 1927, in Chicago, to the late James and Ada-Marie Oliver.  She was a graduate of Lake Forest College in 1949, and later received her law degree in 1952 from DePaul University, in Chicago. 

    Camille was the second woman in the States Attorney’s Office in Illinois and the first woman lawyer in DuPage County’s States Attorney’s office. 

    Camille founded Oliver Construction in the 50s and was later joined by her husband in forming the Oliver Hoffmann Development Corporation of Naperville that developed many residential land projects including, Rock Ridge, Stillwater, Paddocks Subdivision, Kinloch, River Run, Spring Brook Square, and Ash Wood Creek, all of Naperville and many developments in Aurora, Oswego, Sugar Grove, and Batavia. 

    Camille funded many medical projects for Edward Hospital for equipment purchases as well as being a founding annual supporter of Ribfest. She headed the Open Door annual Winter Coat Drive, and formal wear drive for their annual dance for special needs adults. Camille personally tutored the handicapped in both oral and written communication.

    Keith E. Yard 1961-2017

    Keith E. Yard, 55, of Morris, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Loyola Medical Center in Chicago. Born August 31, 1961 in Morris, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Virginia (Walden) Yard. 

    Raised and educated in Morris, Keith graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1979. He received his B.S. from Western Illinois University and then attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where he obtained his J.D.

    Survived by his children, Leah (Daniel) Peat of St. Joseph, MI, Mark Yard of Morris, Christopher (Katie Walker) Yard of Dwight, and Riley Yard of Mazon; Darla Yard Roe of Mazon; grandchildren, Violet and Arthur Peat, and Lucas Yard. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim (Karla) Yard and Kevin Yard, both of Morris; and one sister, Denise (Greg) Gillespie of Varna, IL.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother in infancy, Kenneth Eugene.

    Francis Maxwell 1923-2017

    The Honorable Francis Edgar Maxwell, retired judge of the 20th Judicial Circuit, Nashville, Illinois, died March 21, 2017.

    Francis Edgar Maxwell (known to many of his friends as Max) was born on Nov 7, 1923, in Hoyleton, Illinois, to Ruth Edgar Maxwell and Joseph Daniel Maxwell, who was then teaching school in Hoyleton. Francis moved to Nashville after his father was elected County State’s Attorney, and attended public schools in Nashville. 

    After graduation, Francis won a scholarship to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he began his studies in 1941. In October 1942, however, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to the ASTP program at the University of Nebraska. He then served in Battery C 156th Artillery in France, Austria, and environs, until the end of World War II. In 1944, Francis married Joan Beckmeyer, daughter of Myrtle and Gustav Henry Beckmeyer of Nashville, his classmate in school in Nashville. 

    After discharge from the Army, Francis returned to the University of Illinois to finish his law degree while Joan worked in an abstract of title office in Urbana. Francis was sworn in as an attorney shortly after their twin daughters were born on January 17, 1949.
