One hundred fifty members of the Madison County Bar were honored Tuesday at a Pro Bono Luncheon in Edwardsville sponsored by Heyl, Royster, The Simmons Firm, and the Madison County Bar Association. Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier, 3rd Circuit Chief Judge Ann Callis, and 3rd Circuit Judge Barbara Crowder praised the volunteers for accepting pro bono cases through the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation.
Among volunteers were Billie Johnson of Johnson and Anderson in Edwardsville, Amy Garrett of The Simmons Firm, and Bonnie Levo of Levo and Donahoo in Troy, joined by Joan Spiegel, pro bono coordinator of Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance, Madison County Bar President Ron Foster, and Judge Crowder.
The event was held to coincide with national Pro Bono Week activities.

Attorney Ray J. Koenig III has been named the Managing Member of Clark Hill PLC’s Chicago office, CEO John Hern announced today. Koenig is a member of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, and is a well-known civic activist and leader in the Chicago community.

Gardiner Koch Weisberg & Wrona has opened a Naperville office and added two attorneys. Susan Rogers comes to GKWW after practicing in estate planning, trust administration, guardianship and probate matters for 19 years.
Rogers and Anastasia Xinos, who is also joining GKWW, were formerly with the Law Offices of Rogers & Associates. Xinos has been practicing estate planning for five years.
The GKWW Naperville office will be the same office as formerly occupied by Susan Rogers & Associates at 1700 Park Street, Naperville. With these additions, GKWW now has 17 lawyers and its litigators will greatly expand the capabilities of its new office to handle contested probate and guardianship matters.

Susan Marie Settle, age 50 of Glen Carbon, IL, born April 20, 1961 in St. Louis, MO passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
Susan was employed as an attorney and practiced law in Illinois and Missouri. She was associated with the Gary Underwood Law Firm of St. Louis and also she acted as counsel pro hac vice for various law firms. She attended Son Life Church in Collinsville, and was a former member of Maryville Assembly of God in Maryville.
She graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1979, earned a Bachelor degree from Evangel University in Springfield, MO in 1983, and earned her law degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK in 1986.She is survived by her mother and father, Norma L. nee Flanigan and Kelley R. Settle of Glen Carbon; sisters: Diane C. Settle of Sarasota, FL; Julie A. (Alan) Stolzer of Port Orange, FL; a nephew, Benjamin Stolzer and a niece, Hannah Stolzer both of Port Orange, FL. She was a beloved daughter, sister and aunt. Susan will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Long before laptops and LexisNexis became standard tools of the legal profession, patent attorney James Sprowl was working to connect his colleagues with technology.
A lifelong resident of the North Shore, Mr. Sprowl taught computer law classes at Northwestern University, the University of Illinois, Loyola University, the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Chicago-Kent College of Law, his wife said. He also was an expert witness in several high-profile computer patent cases, including one lawsuit brought by Apple against the manufacturer of a clone computer.

Mr. Kenneth K. Kinser, 94, long-term Decatur attorney and faithful Christian, passed on Sept. 10, 2011, at Fair Havens Christian Home. Kenneth was born in Macon County, IL, the son of Roy Charles and Susan Caroline Albers Kinser. Kenneth was a member of First United Methodist Church, after graduating from law school, he worked for Chicago Title and Trust in Chicago during the early 40’s, and he then moved to Decatur and practiced law for over 55 years. Kenneth was a member of the Decatur Bar Association; he worked hard to represent his clients. He also did a great deal of pro bono work for groups such as the United Methodist Church, both locally and around the state. He served as the Conference Chancellor, giving precise and helpful legal counsel to the church. He also gave free legal counsel to the Preacher's Aid Society and served on the United Methodist Conference Foundation Board. He was a faithful supporter of the Chaddock Children's Home and he was a life-long blood donor. He was a very active and faithful member of his church family at First United Methodist Church of Decatur, he taught adult and children's Sunday school classes for many years.

Maurice Dailey, Sr., passed away in his sleep at his home in Edwardsville on Sept. 22, 2011.
Maurice was born June 25, 1922 in Auburn, Ill., to Mae and Daniel H. Dailey. He started his schooling at St. Boniface in Edwardsville and moved to Taylorville when he was 8 years old. After graduating high school, he attended Illinois College in Jacksonville.
While attending college, he worked for the deaf and blind school. Upon graduation he enrolled in Notre Dame Mid-Shipman's School. From there he served in World War II in the Pacific as captain of a mine sweeper.
After the war, he returned to Taylorville, working in the mines and eventually entering John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he graduated top of class in June, 1950.
From college, he relocated to Granite City, Ill. Maurice became associated with Roscoe Forth in 1950.
Maurice married Judith Ann Jester July 15, 1951, after meeting her in law school. They resided in Granite City until 1973, but his law practice continued in Granite City for a total of 52 years. His practice included real estate, condemnation, probate, banking, corporate and construction law.

Baker & Daniels LLP and Faegre & Benson LLP today announced the combination of their law firms following a vote by partners in both organizations. The combined firm will begin operations as Faegre Baker Daniels on Jan. 1, 2012.
