Rex L. Brown, 86, died on September 10, 2017. He was born on October 3, 1930 in Harvel, IL, the son of Loyd and Helen Sanders Brown. Rex is survived by his wife Marilyn M., with whom he enjoyed 67 years of blissful marriage and their 4 children: Bruce (Marilyn K.), Cynthia Zimdar (Bill), Britt (Laurie) and Brad (Michelle), 10 Grandchildren, 7 Great-Grandchildren, sister Sharon Rose Bright, and sister-in-law Sue Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Max, sister Carole Ann and Step-mother Helen Martin Brown.
As a youth, Rex helped run his family grain farm, cattle ranch and Brown’s Grocery. They also ran a chicken production operation during WWII. Rex attended Knox College, graduated from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois Law School. While in college, he was a butcher, bartender, sports official, newspaper reporter, and photographer. Upon graduation from U of I Law School in 1957, Rex moved his family to Decatur to practice law. He was the senior partner at Brown, Hawkins & Basola, and had several distinguished lawyers in his firm throughout the years. He was loved by his thousands of clients, many of whom became friends.

The Hon. Richard Posner retired from the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago on Saturday, September 2. His decision to step down from the bench after 36 years was announced late last Friday. Now 78, Posner was appointed to the court by President Ronald Regan in 1981 and served as its chief judge from 1993 to 2000.
Posner is well-known in the legal community as a prolific writer on and off of the bench. During his career, he wrote more than 3,300 opinions, as well as dozens of books and articles spanning many legal topics. He is one of the most widely cited appellate judges in the United States.

Sheldon "Ted" Wilson Reagan, 82, died peacefully at home with family at his side on June 30, 2017.
Born in Chicago, on Jan. 8, 1935, he was the son of Dr. Sheldon and Maryan Reagan (Bryan). He was the eldest of three children.
Sheldon grew up in Aroma Park, and there learned his lifelong love of hunting and fishing on the Kankakee River. He graduated from Kankakee Senior High School, where he played football and golf.
While attending the University of the South, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Sheldon was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany. Upon completion of his service, he returned to school and married Eleanor Woehrle in 1958. They raised two children, daughter, Susan, and son, Scott.
During that time, he graduated from John Marshall Law School in 1966 and was immediately appointed as a magistrate in the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Kankakee. After serving on the bench for two years, Sheldon resigned and opened a private law practice, which he maintained as the sole practitioner for 22 years.
In 1977, Sheldon married Barbara Kuester. In 1980, they together had a son, Ted Kuester Reagan. Sheldon and Barb remained happily married until her death in 2007.
In 1989, he was appointed to be an associate judge, and remained on the bench in Kankakee until 2001, at which time he and Barbara both retired and moved to Missoula, Mont.

James Bernard Sloan of Lake Forest passed away at age 82 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on the 50th anniversary of his marriage to Rose. Loving father of Matthew, Anthony (Courtney), Nora Joyce (Tim), Jimmy (Jenny) and Sean. From the west side of Chicago, fourth eldest of thirteen: Andrew, Betty, Mae, Maol, Theresa, Margaret, Ann, the late Ed, Tom, Jack, Kathleen, Philip. Grandfather to ten wonderful grandchildren.
James attended Mater Dolorosa Seminary, Loyola University Chicago, served in the U.S. Army, graduated Loyola Law School 1962, and served as Federal Prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago. Had a distinguished career as a class action antitrust trial lawyer for over 50 years.
Son of Irish immigrants, Barney and Sarah Anne, Jim maintained a close connection with his Irish ancestry. A major contributor to the Chicago Irish community, he helped establish Irish music schools in Chicago and County Down, Ireland, and served as president of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago. Golfer, historian, intellectual, larger than life figure, he will be remembered for his overwhelming spirit and strength, but mostly for those he helped.

Nicolas Velasquez, Sr, age 92, died at home Friday, August 4, 2017.
Nicolas was born on December 23, 1924 in Cabana, Peru, South America the son of Augusto and Maria (Quinonez) Velasquez. He married Nelly Maravi on May 17, 1956 in Lima, Peru. Nicolaswas employed as an Attorney for 39 years retiring in 1989. He enjoyed reading and traveling with his wife Nelly and son Nicolas Jr.
Survivors include, his wife, Nelly of Rock Falls; three daughters, Maria Rosalba (Ray) Larkey of Rock Falls, Janette (William) Kooy of Dixon and Jaqueline (Steven) Mendoza of Dixon; one son, Nicolas Velasquez, Jr. of Rock Falls; six grandchildren, Ray (Danielle O'Neal) Larkey, Jr., Kimberly (Brent) Martin, Jeffrey Larkey, Christopher Kooy, Steven and Michael Mendoza; four great grandchildren, Ben and Austin Larkey, Jonathan and Kensley Martin; siblings, Amado Velasquez, Justino Velasquez, Goya Valle and Jose Velasquez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Theodore Velasquez, Thomas Velasquez, Pedro Velasquez, Yolanda Velasquez and Augusto Velasquez.
Private family graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls.

Honorable Richard E. Scott, 76 years of age, died 31 July 2017 at home. He was a former resident circuit judge of Edgar County.
Mr. Scott was born 5 May 1941, the son of C.E. Scott and Mary (McCarthy) Fitzgerald Scott. He was married to Katherine Miller Scott, who predeceased him on 2 May 1992. He then married Margaret A. Brecht, who survives.
Mr. Scott graduated from Paris High School in 1959. After graduation from the University of Illinois Law School in 1966 and successfully completing the bar exam, Mr. Scott entered the United States Air Force through the Officer Training School and served until October of 1970.
Upon leaving the military, he became affiliated with the Model Circuit State’s Attorney Project in Bloomington, Illinois. He was appointed Associate Circuit Judge for the Fifth Judicial Circuit in April 1972. When Judge Carl Lund was elected to the Fourth District Appellate Court, Judge Scott was appointed to the office of resident circuit judge (Edgar County) for the Fifth Judicial Circuit effective 3 December 1986. He was then elected to that position in 1988, serving until his retirement in December of 2000. He was recalled to active judge status in March 2008, and retired again in July of 2010. Mr. Scott was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Illinois State Bar Association, St. Mary’s Cemetery Board, and St. Mary’s Finance Board.

Morgan J. Ordman, 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 26, 2017, surrounded by family at his residence. Morgan was highly respected as an astute tax and business attorney and served as a trusted mentor and adviser to many colleagues in the legal community. He was a passionate and knowledgeable Chicago sports fan, with particular loyalty to the Cubs and Bears. Morgan was very devoted to his children, Michelle Rhine and Lee Ordman, and his grandson, Jaxon Rhine.
Morgan was born August 9, 1942, in Berwyn, Illinois. He graduated with honors from DePauw University in 1963, and received his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1966. Upon his graduation from law school, Morgan joined the Chicago law firm that eventually became known as McBride Baker & Coles. He was a partner for many years at that firm, serving as the Chair of its Tax Department and a member of its Management Committee. Morgan became a partner of the international law firm of Holland & Knight when it combined with the McBride firm in 2002, and he remained with Holland & Knight until his retirement in 2016. Morgan was a member of the Chicago, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations. He was a past President and Executive Board Member of the Tower Club in Chicago and served on numerous other civic and charitable boards.
Morgan was a caring and loving friend to many, and his clever humor and gentle compassion will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

Levin Ginsburg recently added a new Privacy and Data Security practice group, which will be chaired by partner and ISBA member Natalie A. Remien, who has recently been certified by The International Association of Privacy Professionals as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP). In addition to intellectual property, Ms. Remien’s practice now includes the ability to assist clients in reducing their legal exposure in the event of a data breach. She is experienced in reviewing employee policies and handbooks to address privacy issues, and ensuring that clients have carefully drafted their terms of service and privacy policies on their websites in order to avoid FTC violations. The practice group also includes associate, Kristen E. O’Neill.
