Richard E. White, 85, died Aug. 24, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Murphysboro on May 28, 1934, the son of Edgar and H. Teresa (Brown) White.
He attended Southern Illinois University and earned his law degree from the University of Illinois School of Law in 1957. He was admitted to the Illinois State Bar Association in 1958, the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Illinois in 1959, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1971, and the US, Court of Appeals of the Seventh Circuit in 1989. White practiced law for 50 years before retiring. White's father, C. Edgar White, practiced law in Murphysboro throughout his life as well as holding the position of State's Attorney of Jackson County. His maternal grandfather was an Alderman in Murphysboro; his paternal grandfather was the Mayor of Carbondale and a Sheriff in Jackson County.1 comment (Most recent August 29, 2019) -

Frank L. Bixby, 91, died Saturday, July 20, 2019.
His wife of over 67 years, Kaki, predeceased him by less than three months. He is survived by four children and nine grandchildren.
Frank—known as "Bix" to most of his friends and colleagues—was born in New Richmond, Wisconsin, on May 25, 1928, to Frank H. and Esther (Otteson) Bixby. During the Depression, the family moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where Frank attended West High School. He later attended Harvard College and returned to Madison for law school at the University of Wisconsin, where he became editor-in-chief of the Law Review. After graduation, he went to work for the Chicago law firm, Sidley Austin, LLP—then known as Sidley, Austin, Burgess, & Smith. He spent his entire career at the firm and saw it grow from fewer than 50 attorneys to over 2,000. He served the firm in various roles, including head of its estates and trusts group for many years. He continued working with clients through the firm until he was 90.
