Edward J. Alewelt, 86, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 at Concordia Village.
He was born March 1, 1932, in Springfield, to Frederick R. and Marguerite (Walsh) Alewelt. He married Barb Kadyk on Jan. 10, 1959.

Chicago attorney Robert G. Markoff, of Markoff Law LLC, has been appointed chairman emeritus of National Creditors Bar Association, formerly The National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA).
Markoff, a past president, is the first person after the association’s founder to hold the position.

Jon Allard Jr., 54, of Belleville, died Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was born March 24, 1964, in Belleville.
Jon was a loving father, husband, son, brother and friend to all. He was happiest when he was coaching his kids' sports teams, traveling with his wife, and going to live concerts. Helping others was core to who he was, which is evident with his 18 years of distinguished service as a prosecutor in the St. Clair County States' Attorney's Office. In his career, he was most proud of the time he served as the chief of administration and was the director of the States' Attorney's Crime Prevention Task Force. In later years, he worked as a lawyer for Kurowski Schultz LLC.
Dan O'Day, 63, of Peoria, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, in the company of his wife and daughters.
Dan was born on June 14, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa, to James and Cecelia (Hadacek) O'Day and moved to Peoria as a young child. During his teenage years, he worked at the A&W Root Beer stand, which gave him great stories to tell and friendships that lasted throughout his life. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University, he graduated magma cum laude from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1981. While in law school, he was selected as a member of the Law Review, received the Rickert Award for Excellence in Legal Writing, and was Order of the Coif. Throughout his career, Dan was recognized by several professional organizations for his excellence in legal writing and criminal and civil defense. Practicing law was more than his career; it was his passion.

Sandor "Sandy" Korein, 86, died Sept. 9, 2018. Sandy was born May 5, 1932, in Zalaszengrote, Hungary, to parents, Ferenc and Katalyn Korein.
He grew up in East St. Louis and attended East St. Louis Sr. High School, Washington University, and Washington University, School of Law.

Herbert J. Theisen, 78, of Lincolnwood, has died.
He was an attorney in private practice for over 50 years and former chairman of the Lincolnwood Zoning Board of Appeals, having served over 30 years before retirement.
