The ISBA Young Lawyers Division hosted a yoga and brunch event on Saturday, April 7 at the Chicago Regional Office. The hour-long yoga session was taught by a retired attorney-turned-yoga-instructor, who provided valuable tips and tricks for using exercise as a way to combat stress, depression, and anxiety. After yoga, young lawyers enjoyed brunch and mimosas.

The ISBA Young Lawyers Division hosted a free lunch and learn on Wednesday, March 28, at the Chicago Regional Office. The four panelists — Judy Conway, Stephanie Garces, Terrill Wilkins, and Natali Marquez-Ponce — gave a Q&A-style presentation covering their best tips and tricks for success at a solo practice or small firm.

The Madison County Bar Association and the St. Clair County Bar Association co-hosted a joint meeting on Thursday, March 22 in Collinsville. Members of the ISBA Board of Governors were in attendance and ISBA President Hon. Russell W. Hartigan (ret.) gave a speech.

Over 30 ISBA members, families, and friends represented ISBA in the 2018 Chicago St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 17. The luck of the Irish was with participants, who enjoyed milder temperatures and sunshine as they marched along Columbus Drive. An annual tradition for ISBA, walking alongside our mobile billboard was a great opportunity to represent the association and our lawyers to the public.

On March 14, the ISBA Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention hosted a roundtable discussion on gun violence and logical solutions at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield. This event brought together subject matter experts and key stakeholders from all corners of the state to discuss strategies for tackling the issue, including using crime data and intelligence-based focused deterrence and looking at violence as a public health issue.

The Young Lawyers Division hosted ISBA Day at the ISBA Mutual office on Thursday, Feb. 15. A panel of young lawyers spoke to law students about how to prepare for and what to expect from life after law school. Topics covered included the most valuable skill they learned in law school, the most difficult workplace situation panelists have encountered as lawyers, how to handle the stress of your first law firm job, finding work-life balance, and more. The discussion opened up to audience questions at the end for a more interactive discussion.

The ISBA Young Lawyers Division hosted a wine tasting event on Friday, Feb. 9, at the ISBA Mutual office in Chicago. Young lawyers, newly-admitted lawyers, and law students came together to sample and learn about five different wines, socialize, and network.

ISBA hosted a New Members Welcome Reception at the Chicago Regional Office on Friday, Jan. 19, to welcome Illinois' newest lawyers to the association and profession. Newly-minted attorneys in attendance reunited with old classmates, networked and mingled with other ISBA lawyers, and spoke to staff about how ISBA can help them as they begin to navigate the legal field as working professionals.
