The 2011 Unity Award Dinner and 9th Annual Swearing-In of Bar Presidents was held Wednesday night at the Chicago Hilton. ISBA 2nd Vice President Paula H. Holderman received a 2011 Advocate for Diversity Award and ISBA Immediate Past President Mark D. Hassakis received an Outstanding Diversity Leader Award.

The Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International, recently held its Fall 2011 District XI Initiation Ceremony. Nearly 300 law students and attorneys from the Chicagoland area pledged to further the fraternity's mission of service and to uphold the core values of integrity, courage, compassion, professionalism and diversity. The Illinois State Bar Association's Solo and Small Firm Conference is under way at the Springfield Hilton. Fastcase CEO Ed Walters kicked it off this morning with two programs on legal research. Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride will be the plenary speaker Friday morning and will discuss how he went from a solo practice to the Supreme Court.
