In Illinois, multi-jurisdictional practice is primarily governed by Supreme Court Rule 5.5. With the advent of the internet, social media, Zoom, and other advanced communication methods, multi-jurisdictional representation has flourished and opened new and exciting avenues for legal practice. Under Rule 5.5, in certain circumstances, lawyers not licensed in Illinois may practice in Illinois without obtaining local counsel or an Illinois license.

The Michael A. Bilandic Building is re-opening today as the elevators were returned to service following repairs over the weekend. The State Fire Marshal inspected the site this morning and certified the elevators now meet all code and safety requirements.

The Illinois Supreme Court will hold oral arguments via the Zoom videoconference platform when it hears two cases on January 18. The court will hear arguments in MB Financial Bank, N.A., etc., et al. v. Tim Brophy, etc. et al. and William Walton v. Roosevelt University. The Illinois Supreme Court announced the filing of lawyer disciplinary orders on January 17, 2023. Sanctions were imposed because the lawyers engaged in professional misconduct by violating state ethics law.
