Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity recently conducted its Fall 2012 District XI Initiation. The group welcomed nearly 300 new members in a ceremony presided over by Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke in the auditorium at the James R. Thompson Center. The initiates pledged to advance the fraternity's core values of integrity, courage, compassion, professionalism and diversity through service to the student, the school, the profession and the community. Among the new members were Hon. Anita Alvarez, Cook County State's Attorney, and Gregory Mark, Dean of DePaul University College of Law.

In a decision that gives more strength to the terms of joint parenting agreements, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that reasonable clauses of such agreements should be honored and enforced by lower courts that had already incorporated those terms into a judgment of divorce. At the December 15, 2012 meeting of the ISBA Assembly, two delegates to the ABA House of Delegates will be elected, one from Cook County and one from the area outside Cook County. The nominees for these positions must be members of the ISBA in good standing from the appropriate area. The elected delegates will serve for two-year terms commencing June, 2013 and will join the ISBA delegation at the ABA meeting in San Francisco in August, 2013.The current incumbents are Joseph Bisceglia of Chicago and Timothy Bertschy of Peoria, both of whom are eligible for re-election.Nominations must be made in writing by at least 20 ISBA members in good standing from the appropriate area. Nominations must be filed with the office of the Executive Director not later than Monday, November 26, 2012.
