Illinois Bar Foundation
Over fifty years ago, a handful of visionary leaders founded the Illinois Bar Foundation. Their initial commitment was to provide aid to deserving members of the Illinois Bar who, because of age or infirmity, could no longer provide for their own care or support. Since then, the Foundation has expanded its scope to ensure meaningful access to the justice system, especially for those with limited means, and to assist lawyers who can no longer support themselves due to incapacity.
Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar
The Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar (Board) consists of seven members of the bar appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to oversee the administration of all aspects of bar admissions in the state, including the character and fitness process, the semiannual administration of the bar examination, and the review and approval of applications for admission on motion. The Board is supported by a staff of 20, led by the Board’s Director of Administration. In May 2024, the Supreme Court approved the Board’s recommendation to replace the current Uniform Bar Examination with the NextGen Bar Examination, beginning in 2028. Representatives from the Board will be available to provide background information on the NextGen Bar Examination and answer your questions.

The mission of the Standing Committee on Law Related Education for the Public is: to develop, implement, and administer law-related programs that enhance an understanding of the legal system; to educate the public about the work of lawyers and judges, and the importance of an independent judiciary for the proper administration of justice; to promote students’ interest in our justice system and encourage their consideration of careers in the law; and to advocate for the expansion of civics education in all appropriate environments.
