Edward C. Moehle 1925-2014
Edward Carl Moehle, 88, of Pekin, passed away on September 13, 2014 at his home.
He was born December 7, 1925 in Okawville to Walter August and Minna Elizabeth (Miché) Moehle.
Ed was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater as Chief Clerk at the headquarters of General Douglas MacArthur and worked for the International Military Tribunal of the Far East in Tokyo, Japan. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Ed graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and later with his Juris Doctor degree. He also was a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and prior to law school, worked as a bank examiner for the Federal Reserve in the St. Louis District. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
Following law school, Ed was admitted into the Bar in Missouri and then in Illinois. He began work as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Tazewell County prior to founding the law firm which now is known as Moehle, Swearingen & Assoc., Ltd. with his brother, Mel in 1966. Ed retired in 2010 after a fulfilling career of practicing law for over 50 years. Ed was also associated with Attorney’s Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. (ATG) since 1965 as an active member and as a board member from 1970 to 2003. He served as Chairman of the Board of ATG from 1980 to 1982. Ed was instrumental in developing the Court Counselor program in Tazewell County and was very active on the Tazewell Mason Special Education Board for many years. He was a former member of the Pekin Public Schools District 108 Board of Education.
An active member of First United Methodist Church in Pekin, Ed was a very loyal servant, serving on many boards and committees of the church.
Surviving are his wife, Carol; four daughters, Colleen Moehle, Michelle (Thor) Moestue, Valerie Moehle and Paula (Timothy) Church; five grandsons, James Michael (Rachel) Hartnett, III, Eric Robinson, Nicholas Umholtz, Alexander Umholtz and William Church; four granddaughters, Katherine (David) Bow, Anna Umholtz, Elizabeth Church and Margaret Church and one great-grandson, Joshua M. Hartnett. He also leaves a longtime son-in-law, Stewart Umholtz and two former foreign exchange students, Tina from Costa Rica and Lisa from Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Charlotte Anne Church and four brothers, C. Fred Moehle, Walter E. Moehle, Robert C. Moehle and Melvin O. Moehle.
