Theodore 'Ted' Spak 1932-2016
Theodore ("Ted") Spak, 83, passed away January 20, 2016. An attorney, CPA, businessman, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ted was a diamond life master and certified bridge teacher, as well as a devoted philanthropist.
Ted was born in Chicago, and attended Northwestern University, graduating with an accounting degree in 1953 and from the law school in 1956. After practicing law from 1956-62, he established Theodore Spak & Associates, a public insurance adjusting firm, where he served as President until his retirement. He relocated to Miami, Florida in 1976.
Throughout his life, Ted remained active in supporting Northwestern University, endowing scholarship funds at the Law School and Medical School. He served on the Florida International University Foundation Board from 1984-2010, and was instrumental in establishing the FIU College of Law, to which he and his wife, Rosalind, made major endowments.
Ted is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rosalind Spak; his children: Marcee Albertario, Robert Spak (Sharon), Joseph Pallot (Susan), and Melissa Slocum; his grandchildren: Melissa Peck (Jason), Michelle Spak (Dr. Robert Saltzmann), Matthew Albertario (Michelle), Richard Pallot, Maxwell Pallot, and Claire Slocum; and his great-grandchildren: Lacie Saltzmann, Bennett Peck, and Liam Peck.
Services have been held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the endowment funds he established at Northwestern University and FIU. The Theodore and Rosalind Spak Research and Education Fund, which supports the advancement of neurological surgery research and education, or the Joseph and Sophie Spak Scholarship Fund, which helps offset tuition costs for needy law school students, through checks payable to Northwestern University, Attn: June Ulrey, 420 E.
