ISBA President Presents American Lawyers Alliance’s Law-Related Education Teacher of the Year Award to Illinois Educator
ISBA President David Sosin presented the American Lawyers Alliance’s Law-Related Education Teacher of the Year Award to Dennis Brown, a teacher at Huntley High School, on Aug. 9 in San Francisco.
The event coincided with the American Bar Association's 2019 Annual Meeting.
The awards were created to honor teachers who have made significant contributions in the area of law-related education and who have developed programs that have:
- Furthered the understanding of the role of the courts, law enforcement agencies, and the legal profession;
- Helped students recognize their responsibilities as well as their rights;
- Encouraged effective law-related education programs in their schools and communities; and
- Increased communication among students, educators, and those involved professionally in the legal system.
“At Huntley High School, Dennis has developed courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and constitutional law, providing more than 375 high school students with unique educational opportunities,” Sosin said. “The courses proved so popular that the high school had to hire a second law teacher. Without question, Dennis has cultivated a remarkably unique learning environment for high school students who are beginning to think about their future plans, and in so doing, he is sparking an interest in the legal field for the next generation.”
