John “Jack” T. McGarry, age 81, of Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

Dearly loved and wonderful husband of Mary Ellen (nee Whoriskey) McGarry; cherished son of Daniel and Anne (Walsh) McGarry, the very best father and proud dad of Suzanne (Jack Roberts), John (Sharon) McGarry, Annette McGarry, the late Celeste McGarry and Patrick (Amy) McGarry; adored Grandpa/Papa Jack of Michelle (David) Shannon, Danielle (Daniel) Kotek, Lauren, Jack, Molly, Mac, Ryan and William; great grandfather of Grace and Danny Shannon and Charlotte and Elizabeth Kotek; dear brother of the late Edward, Mary (the late Frank) Cone, Daniel (Marilyn) McGarry, Nancy Kegel, Martin (Kay) McGarry, Patricia (James) Evanko and the late Nora McGarry. Survived by the mother of his children and friend Carmen McGarry. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews, in-laws, and dear friends and colleagues he left behind.

Jack attended Siena College (Class of 62) and John Marshall Law School (Class of 65). In life, he was known by many titles: Superman to his family, a happy workaholic, janitor during his law school years, the owner of the Falcon Inn and Hyde Park landlord. He also served as a Cook County Public Defender and was a Cook County State Attorney right out of law school but moved on to private law firms, specializing in Eminent Domain Law. He lived and enjoyed life to its fullest and left all who knew him with many memories to carry on without him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5472 S. Woodlawn Avenue, (parking lot entrance on Woodlawn Avenue) on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11:00A.M.Interment Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Alsip, IL.
