The Bridge Builder
Veteran family law attorney Rory T. Weiler is profiled in the July Illinois Bar Journal as the 2022-23 Illinois State Bar Association president, the 146th in the association’s history. Weiler tells the IBJ about his plans for initiatives serving urban legal deserts, protecting the practice of law, and empowering members.
The challenges faced by the legal industry deserve “real answers,” Weiler says. “I am of the belief that nonlawyer ownership isn’t the answer,” he continues. “We’re going to be looking at other ways that we can expand the opportunity for our members to represent clients, do a good job for them, and earn an appropriate and reasonable fee for doing so. These moving parts are all going on at the same time, but they’re interrelated.”
