Robert “Bob” Turnbow 1928-2023

Robert "Bob" Turnbow, 95, of Centennial, Colo., formerly of Rantoul, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, succumbing to old age.

Robert Turnbow was a loving husband, father, and friend. He will be remembered and missed by the many lives he touched.

Bob was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Centralia to Jess and Irene Turnbow. Bob spent his formative years in Centralia, where he graduated from high school. Bob then attended the University of Illinois, where he graduated with a degree in business administration. He joined the Army and served Stateside before he was honorably discharged. Utilizing the GI bill, Bob returned to the UI, earning his law degree in 1956.

With his law degree in hand, Bob settled in Rantoul, where he practiced law for 37 years. He had a private law practice and also served as the city attorney for Rantoul for the majority of his career.

While in Rantoul, Bob met and then on Dec. 17, 1957, married Dorothy Peterson. They remained married until her passing in 2017. Together they had two children who brought them much joy. In Rantoul, Bob belonged to the United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, and Kiwanis International. Bob was a lifelong avid golfer and shot many rounds at Brookhill during his years in Rantoul.

Bob retired in 1993. In 1999, Bob and Dorothy moved to Aurora, CO, to be near family. Since Bob's happy place was the golf course, it didn't hurt that the golf season was two months longer in Colorado than his native Illinois. Bob and Dorothy lived in the Heritage Eagle Bend community in Aurora. In retirement, Bob continued to golf regularly and secured his first, second, and third holes-in-one over the next two decades. Bob and Dorothy also enjoyed traveling together, including taking a number of cruises.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Neal Turnbow of Gifford and Wayne Turnbow of Duluth, MN; three grandchildren; and his sister, Margaret Beach of Bay Village, OH.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Turnbow; and his wife, Dorothy.
