Hon. Dennis A. Dernbach 1942-2023

Hon. Dennis Aloysius Dernbach, a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2023, in Chicago, IL, at the age of 80.

Born in Chicago on April 29, 1942, to Clement and Irene Dernbach, Dennis was a lifelong resident of the city he loved. Known for his friendly, funny, and kind demeanor, Dennis never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Dennis' educational journey began at St. Ignatius College Prep, from which he graduated in 1960. He continued his studies at Loyola University Chicago, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964. Dennis proudly served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1970, a formative experience that would shape his character and commitment to service. After his time in the Navy, Dennis pursued a legal education at Loyola University Law School. He then joined the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. His dedication and hard work eventually led to his appointment as a judge, a position he held with honor and integrity for 20 years.

Throughout his life, Dennis was deeply committed to his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Clement and Irene; his brother, Clement; his sister, Mary Irene; and his first wife, Linda, with whom he shared many happy years. He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen O'Farrell; his cherished daughter, Ann; his beloved sister, Peggy; and the extended Dernbach, Kuzminski, Doyle, Erickson, and Schmukler families, who will forever cherish his memory.

Dennis had a natural gift for storytelling and a passion for connecting with others. He could captivate a room with his tales, often infused with humor and wit, and was always eager to engage in conversation. Dennis' love for people extended beyond his family and friends to the countless individuals he encountered throughout his life, many of whom became lifelong friends.

Dennis' legacy of kindness, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Little Sisters of the Poor St. Mary's Nursing Home in honor of Dennis and the late Mary O'Farrell.
